Nuria

The storyteller of the forest

"Nuria, the storyteller of the forest" tells the story of a young girl who loves stories, and who, motivated by the mysterious existence of a house full of books in the middle of the forest, sets out one morning on that search.

The young Nuria will find the house and the possibility of taking only one book at a time; also, a small door with a sign "Do not open." The discovery of the books excites the protagonist, while the mystery of the door awakens her curiosity.

Nuria will borrow a book and at dusk she will read it aloud in the town square. She will go and return three times with a different book, and each time, when reading aloud in the town square, more people will gather to enjoy her stories.

Finally, on the last visit to the house in the forest, the young girl will reveal the mystery of the closed door, which in turn becomes the outcome of the story.

The work, of her own authorship, incorporates elements of oral tradition, such as a frame story in which other stories are intertwined, the repetition of three intense and the appearance of characters such as fairies and dragons, among others.

In the moments when Nuria reads the books aloud, the narration is combined with back projections of slides that illustrate and complement the text in a suggestive way (in the style of a picture book).

For the creation of these projections, resources such as live drawing, shadows, kinerama, flap games, etc. have been explored, with the purpose of achieving movement through analog technology. The techniques and materials used have been inks, watercolors, cutouts and collages, among others.

In this way, the work aims to awaken an attentive and subtle look and listening, with a rhythm of word and text that trusts in the sensitivity of the public.

Betting, in times of technological overstimulation, on rescuing poetic beauty and wonder at simplicity.

Furthermore, the work is a tribute to the ancestral profession of storytellers, while reviving the importance of following one's own impulse in search of doing what gives one pleasure.
